2024 Mr. I, Yamagata Prefecture [Order at store]
Delivery example #002

Hello everyone, this is Kanauchi Kaito from Sleep Shop. This time, I will introduce a case where a futon (single) was re-stuffed to a futon (single).

Actually, this re-casting is not just a re-casting from single size to single size. I will tell you the details, so please read to the end.

Cotton futon still lying around at home

When you are tidying up your living space, you may come across cotton futons that you haven't used for a long time. Even if they have been sleeping in your closet or storeroom for a long time, you may feel it would be a waste to throw them away. However, in the end, you may end up disposing of them because you have trouble storing them .

Small single size cotton futon

The customer in this case found a small single-sized cotton futon lying around at home, and felt it would be a waste to just throw it away. Since she wanted to use it for herself, she decided to have it re-stuffed.

The futon was brought directly to our store.
As we continued our discussion, we confirmed the size of the futon together with the customer.
The customer had told us in advance that it was a single-size futon, but when we actually measured it, the size of the futon was 95 x 195 cm. The current standard single size is 100 x 200 cm or 100 x 210 cm, so we can see that it is a little small.

Differences in single sizes by era

In fact, it is not uncommon for a futon that you think is single size to actually be too small.

Depending on when it was purchased, it is common for the futon to be slightly smaller than today's standard single size.

Why does this happen?

As time goes on, the average physique of Japanese people has changed. Therefore, it is said that there is a difference in the size of single sizes now and in the past.

Another reason is that even if the fabric is cut to the exact dimensions of 100 x 200 cm, the finished size will be smaller because the fabric will expand once the filling is added .
*We anticipate this phenomenon and cut the fabric a little larger in advance so that we can tailor it to your exact desired size as much as possible.

However, just because it is a small single size does not mean that we cannot re-stuff it to a single size. The condition of the filling is important when re-stuffing, so please rest assured.

About the items we store

Condition of the items in your possession

Since it had hardly been used, the fabric was in good condition with no rips or stains. The futon had a beautiful pattern with various red colors that gave it an autumn feel.

Also, I had the impression that the filling was mostly synthetic fiber, but there was also plenty of cotton in it. The thickness of the filling had thinned considerably, but it was still enough to refill.

Finished product and finish

The completed futon is slightly larger in size, so you can sleep more comfortably than before. The volume of the futon has also been restored, making it more comfortable to sleep on. I am very happy that the futon that no one used has been reborn as a new one and will be used again.
