Hello everyone, this is Kanauchi from Sleep Shop. Recently, the "mite-resistant cotton" used in the filling of naptime futons for nursery schools has been renamed to "mite-resistant processed cotton" and has made a new start. In this blog, I would like to introduce the details of how the anti-mite cotton has evolved from the previous version. I hope you will read to the end.

Previous anti-mite cotton

Before introducing "mite-resistant cotton," let's briefly explain what "mite-resistant cotton" has been so far.
Anti-mite cotton is 100% polyester that has been treated with anti-mite coating (hereinafter referred to as anti-mite polyester), and has high anti-mite performance, so it is recommended for children with mite allergies. In addition, because the fibers are long and dust-resistant, it is also safe for children who suffer from asthma or who dislike dust.

However, there were also disadvantages.
Polyester material has poor breathability and moisture absorption, and tends to become stuffy when you sweat, sacrificing comfort when sleeping .

As a result, although the mattress is specialized in preventing dust mites, it is less comfortable to sleep on than natural materials, which was one of the reasons that reduced the quality of daily naps.

Towards anti-mite cotton

At Nemuriya, we have worked to improve our anti-mite cotton in order to provide an even more comfortable nap environment for children who use nap bedding made with anti-mite cotton.

We discussed and exchanged opinions within the company about what would be the best way to solve the current sleeping comfort issues while taking advantage of the excellent properties of anti-mite cotton.

Improvement of anti-mite cotton

We thought that we should use pure cotton, which is a natural material, to improve breathability and moisture absorption. However, it would be counterproductive if the mite-proofing effect was compromised in the pursuit of comfort.

Therefore, we investigated the optimal mix of materials to maintain the anti-dust mite effect while still providing a comfortable sleeping experience. As a result, we arrived at the following balance.

Anti-mite polyester 70%: pure cotton 30%

We believe that this combination strikes the optimal balance for maintaining anti-mite effectiveness while providing a comfortable sleeping experience.
In addition, to coincide with this new formula, we have decided to change the name of the cotton to "mite-resistant cotton."

Characteristics of "mite-resistant cotton"

- Anti-mite performance at the same level as anti-mite cotton.
- Compared to anti-mite cotton, it has improved breathability and moisture absorption, making for a more comfortable sleep.

Comparing the appearance of anti-mite cotton and anti-mite treated cotton

If you look closely at anti-mite treated cotton, you will see a few spots on its surface.
This is actually the "cotton shell" contained in pure cotton. By adding pure cotton, not only has the performance changed but also the appearance has changed slightly.
